History of Krøll Cranes A/S

Krøll Cranes A/S was established in the mid 50's by F. B. Krøll. Krøll Cranes started as an agency and licensed manufacturer of Linden-cranes. Gradually the company started to develop their own assortment of cranes, which where more competitive than the licensed products. Through the 60's and 70's the company's product assortment grew and the company started to establish negotiators and a whole network of agents around the world. In the mid 70's Krøll mainly exported to USA, Canada, West Germany and Scandinavia.

In sight of the market in the late 70's the company as a main objective started to develop larger cranes types. The company where not capable of this rearrangement, so the founder F. B. Krøll had to entrust the company to the Vølund concern. This resulted in the last centuries biggest crane deal in the mid 80's, thirteen K-10000, the world largest tower crane, to former U.S.S.R and two K-10000 to USA for building nuclear power plants and with the prospect of more deals in the future. The company grew and had up to 300 people employed.

After the three mile island- and the Chernobyl- accident in the late 80's, the outlooks for more giant crane deals where grim and all the (existing) companies' product assortment was developed in the 60's and 70's. Because of all the resources and time spent on building these huge cranes the network of agents had crumbled and the company had to go through a long list of managers and different names.

A new strategy had to be made to concur the position the company had in the mid 70's. To do this the company had to develop a totally new assortment of cranes tailor made for the market and establish a new and strong network of agents.

Today the company, situated on the outskirts of Copenhagen, is now a member of the Muhibbah Engineering Group and there are over 10 agents around the world (mainly in the far east) and the company produces cranes from as far down as 50 tm to 25000 tm. Krøll was DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 certified June 2005.
